PREVIEW: Jocelyn Brown at Hoochie Coochie, Newcastle on 7th and 8th May 2015

Jocelyn-Brown-headshot-600x399

Another in the steady flow of top female vocalists to grace the stage of Hoochie Coochie, Ms Brown follows in the footsteps of Chaka Khan, Martha High and Candi Staton to name but three. The Thursday (May 7th) night performance has proved so popular that an extra night has been added the next day, such is the pull of an artist described as ‘sensational’, extraordinary’ and ‘incredible’. In other words, get your ticket soon to avoid disappointment!

Always There by Incognito featuring Jocelyn Brown

Since hitting number 1 in the 1978 US Dance chart with ‘Keep on Jumpin’, the then Musique vocalist has habitually returned to the fore, in the UK she reached number 3 with Right Said Fred in 1991, but perhaps the focus should be more on the number 6 she got in the same year with Incognito, who are also becoming regular visitors to HC. ‘Always There’ is a feel good track if there ever was one, and a staple in the DJ booth of any self respecting jazz, funk or soul venue. You can (hopefully!) expect to hear this, and over and above anything, the big soulful voice of one of the finest female artists the other side of the Atlantic.

Somebody Else’s Guy (Live) by Jocelyn Brown

Jocelyn performed at Hoochie Coochie last year, sadly I couldn’t make it, but reports from the night suggest that for many of the happy punters present it was one of, if not the best gig they have ever attended. That’s a lot to live up to, but I have no doubt that the 2 nights in May will be sensational, extraordinary and incredible.
